Words, Glorious Words

In regard to my NaNoWriMo word count: I’m happy to report, I’m caught up! My official word count is 5061, so as long as I get to 6668 before midnight, I’m right on track. Phew. Now to catch up on all the other things I’ve been neglecting. Like my music.

My goal is to have 10 songs recorded, and possibly mixed, by Christmas. So far, I have three songs minus vocals. I’m doing most of the instrumental arrangements in Ableton Live 5, then importing the Live arrangements into Pro Tools, where I plan to record the vocal and acoustic guitar parts. So far I’m very pleased with the instrumental tracks. And my favorite part of recording is laying down the vocal. So what’s holding me back? As usual, I’m getting hung up on lyrics. I’ve been doing some pretty extensive re-writes on my songs, which means my old lyrics won’t fit into the new arrangements. I guess that means I have a bigger word count to deliver tomorrow than I thought.

Maybe I should make December my own personal NaSoWriMo—National Song Writing Month—where the goal is to write a song a day or something like that. It looks like something similar exists but it’s also in November. A novel and an album may be too much for one month.
