Sufjan Stevens + 2378 words = Sunday

Sufjan Stevens’ latest album makes me homesick. I don’t know why; it’s called Illinois after all, and the Prairie State is the subject of all 22 of its songs. But when those introductory chords hit me, all I can think of is Vermont and how much I miss it. Maybe it’s because the album feels autumnal, and autumn is when I miss home most. The music is at once vibrant and melancholy, much like the feel of a crisp autumn day. And like autumn, the album encompasses the beauty of death, the beauty of harvest. As Stevens gently sings on the track Chicago: All things grow…. All things go.

Stevens is reportedly going to record an album for each of the 50 states. I can’t wait to hear his take on Vermont.

NaNoWriMo update: Despite being behind yesterday, I managed to write 2378 words today, so I am 27 words ahead of today’s 10002 word-count quota. (And despite the timestamp of this blog entry, I did finish today’s words before midnight.) Very busy fingers indeed!
