What a difference a day makes!
I had a brilliant second on site day at my job. I’m still getting a feel for the way things operate, but everyone has been very helpful and kind. And it turns out I wasn’t the only one who didn’t turn up yesterday. Even though I’m technically just a contractor, I don’t get that “second class citizen” vibe that I sometimes got at Microsoft. It’s a nice change. I also love that right behind where I sit is a “test station,” with a full-on studio setup. How inspiring to be surrounded by gear and other musicians — it’s even better than being surrounded by video games and gamers like at my last job.
As far as getting to work, I needed the chains to get out of the driveway, but they were overkill for the rest of my journey. Yes, commuters, I was the idiot driving on marginally slushy roads with chains. I tried to get them off mid-journey, but it was taking too long, so I decided getting to work in a timely manner was more important. I finally managed to get the chains off in the company parking lot in the afternoon. It was no easy feat — I have little cuts on my hand to prove it. The good thing is my drive home was uneventful. I was, however, spooked by any shiny patch I saw in the road. And what I was so freaked out by turned out not to be ice, but um, wet road. Geez.
Okay, that’s all I’m going to say about weather for a while… until the next snow storm, that is.
