Stowaway scorpion stings Stowe man on plane
Some poor guy from Stowe (Vt.) was bitten by a scorpion while on a plane en route from Chicago to Burlington. The scorpion apparently boarded the plane in Houston — somehow getting past all the heightened security — and chose to upgrade its seat assignment to the pant leg of the aforementioned passenger sometime after the plane departed Chicago. After stinging the man twice, the scorpion finally revealed itself at the Burlington International Airport (hey, they get flights from Canada), where it was promptly squashed by another traveler.
The Vermont hospital where the man sought treatment could administer no treatment (other than to monitor his vitals), as there is no scorpion anti-venin in Vermont — and federal regulations prohibit its transport across state lines (wtf?). The man is recovering, but has yet to receive any compensation from United Airlines.
